2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E-Performance

September 23, 2022 at 12:00pm PST.

I have been waiting for this revamped C63s for a while now. Was a hybrid the way to go? I don’t think so, but now I’m curious to see what Audi and BMW concatenate with EVs slowly taking over the market. Supposedly the new C63s is faster than the BMW M3 Competition and the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. C43 will return also, but it has not been mentioned to be a hybrid or not yet. All assumptions point towards yes.

The lack of thrill starts at the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine combined with a 201hp electric motor. Although this creates a staggering 671hp with 752lb-ft of torque that propels it to 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 174mph, the lackluster artificial engine noises inside and outside the cabin are just not engaging enough for an AMG beast.

The electric motor’s purpose is  to improve fuel economy although it can only muster up 8 miles on electricity only modes. An electrically powered M139 turbocharger is used to reduce turbo lag. Similar to a Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 race car and tweaked from the CLA and GLA 45 turbochargers. The C63s sports an AWD 9-speed wet-clutch MCT transmission that creates 8 drive modes; 4 of which are regenerative braking modes. Other attributes include steel suspension, adaptive dampeners, and rear wheel steering (let’s go doughnuts!) The premium base trim should start around $85k like prior years. Normal AMG seats are inside, with cut outs to save weight. Panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled seats, and 4-zone climate control for all passengers, are wonderful bonus features. All models will have the 11.9” infotainment touchscreen which faces towards the driver from the middle. a 12.3” digital gauge-cluster for the driver will complement this. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and will rock through the Burmeister stereo system.

Safety features include:

  1. Optional adaptive cruise-control that uses navigation for turns in the road with lane-centering and lane-keeping assist features.
  2. Standard auto-emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

Unfortunately there are no complimentary services for this vehicle unlike Volvo, BMW, and Genesis. Just a limited powertrain warranty that covers 4 years or 50k miles. The car weighs in at an astonishingly heavy 4654lbs. This is serious S-class vibes without the rear leg room to warrant it. If you don’t equip aftermarket Forgiatos, 19” or 20” wheels are the options. Other markets will get a choice of sedan or station wagon. Why does the U.S. always get screwed?! I want a wagon!
