2022 Honda Civic Review –

July 19, 2022 at 9:00am PST.

The 11th generation Civic has now been out for almost a year. I have personally had my 2022 Honda Civic Touring Sport in Sonic Gray Pearl, for three months. Enough time has been spent on my 65-mile daily work commute, to exercise my opinion of the impeccable daily driver.

This car has thoroughly impressed myself and others, according to the articles and videos I have absorbed. When purchasing, I was not too thrilled to be paying $4k in ADM (additional dealer markup) for their “manufacturer packages.” Now I know it was definitely worth it to be able to experience this car early. By the way, the best deal to get this car is through the Costco Auto Program! You will still have to pay an ADM of sorts, but it will be the cheapest price around. I haggled with 10 different dealers in Los Angeles and could not get anywhere near Costco pricing, which even includes a free oil change! Worth the membership!

Below I will highlight the specific features that contributed to my opinion as well as some drawbacks that I wish were fixed in this Civic iteration.

30 things I love about the 2022 Civic Touring Sport:

  1. 180hp CVT with 3 driving modes (ECON, Normal, and Sport.)

2. Incredible MPG – 30/37 highway.

3. Such good MPG, the car may qualify as a “Hybrid” with your credit union for a lower financing interest rate! First Entertainment Credit Union in Burbank does!

4. LED fog lights.

5. One-Touch Power Moon-roof.

6. Blind spot and lane keeping assist that is very well done. Reminds me of a Tesla to a point and definitely better than any competitors out there.

7. Brake Stop, which holds the car in place when at a complete stop so you don’t have to press on the brake. Love it.

8. Wireless Apple CarPlay with a 9-inch screen.

9. Bose’s speakers. 12 to be exact with an included Subwoofer. Sounds just as good as Audi or BMW.

10. ACC Cruise Control can either be normal or steer the car also while your hands are on the wheel.

11. Gray front facia on the larger optioned 18”.

12. 4 USBs.

13. The tachometer for the driver, displays your Civic and other cars in the middle of the cluster when cruise control is on with lane assist; like a Tesla. Quite impressive and works relatively well.

14. Leather seats. The biggest advantage above the Sport trim for me.

15. Wireless phone charger.

16. Heated front seats.

17. Traffic sign recognition and speed limits displayed.

18. Tail lights look great. Quite similar to the Kia Stinger GT.

19. LED headlights with black housing.  I PPF wrapped mine for protection.

20. Honeycomb grill and air vents are a huge upgrade and look incredible.

21. Led fog lights.

22. Auto rain sensing wiper blades.

23. HUD displays info just on dash.

24. Customizable dash That is all digital unlike other trims.

25. Can change gauge clusters to “bars” which displays your speed and other information differently.

26. The auto high beams are very responsive. They don’t go off if a car headlights are seen within about 1000ft.

27. No gas cap is sick and it auto locks with the car.

28. Water shoots from windshield wipers themselves. I have never seen this, but it works and definitely conserves windshield wiper fluid.

29. Speed limit tick on speedometer where you have the cruise control set to, turns red and looks sporty. Reminds me of an accident like the alcantara notch on a Porsche GT3-RS sport steering wheel. Love the subtleties.

30. Passenger seat is fully automatic and goes up and down! I am yet to see this in another car, even though I’m sure I am wrong.

15 things that the 2022 Civic Touring Sport could improve upon:

  1. No heated steering wheel like the same Canada model.

2. No HUD like the 2022 Mazda 3 Premium Hatchback.

3. You have to slam every door to close or it will beep profusely like the door or hatchback is still open.

4. No heated back seats. Canadian model only again.

5. No auto hatch open or close. The weight is quite heavy also, unlike Mazda 3 Hatchbacks.

6. The Hatchback button on the key fob, only unlocks it and does not open it at all.

7. No lumbar support. Crazy.

8. No seat memory settings. Crazy, I didn’t even know this was an option in the 21st century. So now, anytime you go in for service, you will have to manually reset it back to your liking.

9. Thin paint that shows chips easily. I PPF’d the whole front end because of this. I would advise that or have a handy paint matched pen from Amazon to cover all the chips you are going to experience.

10. Seriously, this paint is so thin and crappily made! I did one, 90 mile road trips, and was already seeing black primer under my gorgeous Sonic Gray Pearl paint because of some slight highway debris blowing around during the rain. Save yourself the pain and protect the front of your car upon delivery. Mine cost about $800 for the full front end and headlights. Quite a bit cheaper than a new paint job or dealing with how paint chips will look!!

11. Wipers could chip paint. Have to hold the wiper stock for 2 seconds to engage them to the mid windshield when replacing them. Have the dealer do it or PPF that area on the back of the hood.

12. No cooled seats like the Honda Accord.

13. Removal of passenger side camera that was integrated back in 2017! Bad move Honda, everybody loved that option. This should definitely be standard on a Touring Sport!

14. The slope of the windshield is perfect for getting all the bugs. It gets filthy very fast because of that specific incline somehow.

15. The trim should have no chrome like the Sport model. Very odd they opted to add chrome to the pricier model. Should have fully black rims like the Sport model, which is cheaper by the way! Instead, this model has black rims with a dark gray facia.

As you can see, I have way more to love about this vehicle than my petty complaints. Stay tuned for a comparison article and video on the 2022 Honda Civic Sport Touring to the 2022 Mazda 3 Hatchback Premium! Thanks for reading!
